vicrider 0 Report post Posted October 26 I hate you and your photos. Not really but it kills me that the days and years I spent on the streams of Lake Superior and Lake Michigan for steelhead and salmon are over. Our fish out of Lake Superior, my main rivers, ran smaller and probably a 3-4# average for the true rainbows with the Kamloops getting into the 6-8#s range. The third year returning Chinooks regularly punch past 10#s and my biggest in MN was 24#s. Lake Michigan fish ran larger with 10# bows and 20+ average on Chinooks with my biggest being 36#s. When I spent years fishing the rivers up north for fish lake that and like those you have available you can see why I really miss those days. 3-5# bass are fun but nothing like you have there. Congrats and keep enjoying it. By the way, the large majority of our fish were on simple #4 hooks with either tied yarn you almost call a fly or just snelled hooks with yarn tucked under the snell. In Michigan the snelled yarn tagged with a small rubber egg was our standard killer. Nice to see real flies being used these days, especially nymphs under floats, something we never used. I was thinking steelhead flies were more specified. Shows you what I know. I've only caught them on Muddlers and egg patterns. I'm going to open up my repertoire. Thanks for the post.
