Last float trip of the year

Recommended Posts

It’s always sad to put away the rods till next spring. It was 80 on Tuesday, but fell to 50 on Wednesday for a float on the St Croix. Unlike many of the trips that are catching, this one was fishing. The rain and the wind were minimal.
IMG_2101.jpegWe fished rock, sand, weeds, trees, shallow, and deep. We had a swing and a miss from a little pike and a small musky at the boat. Seven hours of throwing the 12 weight, with wet loading a large articulated fly half of the time. All was not lost however. The boat spooked a pair of Trumpeter Swans, who did a big circle around us. We also saw 5 deer, 2 large flocks of turkeys, a bunch of sandhill cranes, and various ducks. All in all a good day and pleased I could wetload that fly for as long as I did. Now I am wishing I could get out once more.

Well you had good trip regardless of the fish not doing there part. I’m very impressed by the casting, I’m sitting here drinking coffee with casting wrist wrapped in ice from a short fishing trip on Friday.
