SalarMan 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2024 Back in the 1970's I was tying what we called "Wonder Wings" on certain dry flies. When did they become "Wally Wings" and where did the name come from?
Jaydub 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2024 My understanding of the current nomenclature is that "Wonder Wings" have one feather for each wing, with its fibers pulled back and tied in . "Wally Wings" were developed by someone named Wally Lutz and are formed from a single feather with its stem split into two wings.

Fly tying history is not my thing but this is my limited understanding. A wonder wing is one feather one wing and a wally wing is one feather split down the stem to form two wings. I’ve also seen wonder wings referencing a manufactured fake wing. This fake wing is what I always thought of as a 1970’s wonder wing.
