I am trying for the shop now to fill some bins for the spring customers. I have the same plan, except I’m not selling my house, I’m going south then to the west coast, I don’t have a fly shop to sell and I won’t be selling anything. Other than that it’s the same thing. I’m buying the truck in 2025, retiring and buying the 5th wheel in 26. I’ve been hitting all the RV shows for the last couple years and delaying the truck purchase because of political uncertainty surrounding diesel trucks over the last handful of years. The future looks bright for fossil fuels so it’s time to buy the truck.

I must have 20 spools of different colors. My resolution is keep trying to tie Catskills flies.
DFoster 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2024 I'm with you guys when it comes to the "Don't buy more stuff until I check my current stuff so that I don't end up buying more of the same stuff", guilty you honor... My wife and I are planning to remodel her office- my tying area this January. I'm thinking about ways to create an inventory file on my phone to avoid spending money on things I don't need. We'll see- just my hooks and beads alone are going to prove to be a time consuming challenge..
cphubert 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2024 I have decided to help you poor fellows out, I will buy your excess materials for what you told your wife you paid for them😁 personally I have come to grips with my excess material inventory and now see it as a storage challenge and possibly a disorder that I will be applying for a grant to study. I need to reorganize or reinvent my mobile tying material set up, finished my mobile tool and bench this year everything needs to go in the bed of the truck with room for the cot (8 foot bed with tall contractor cap)
DFoster 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2024 I gave this post a little more thought last night- One thing I'm going to resolve to do is to use what I call those "other" patterns in my fly boxes more often. I find myself always tying on my "go to" patterns which is fine but I spent the time and effort tying a lot of other patterns that don't really see much service. Typically I fish 2 fly tandem rigs and I'm thinking I'll force myself to split the difference between a go to and any one of my seldom used ties. Who knows maybe I find a local gem in the process? Bryon Anderson 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2024 Acquire the correct materials for, then tie some feather Game Changers. Tie and fish some patterns I've never fished, starting with the Murdich Minnow. Build shadow boxes/display boxes for all the cool swap flies I've saved up over the years. (Not exactly a tying goal, but tying-adjacent.) EDIT - almost forgot! Learn to tie Intruders, tube flies, and other "swing" flies to fish on my first-ever two-handed rod, currently under construction.

I have tied and used the Murdich Minnow in both salt and fresh and it’s a great fly. Especially in tidal creeks !
Squeezy 0 Report post Posted Tuesday at 12:12 PM My goals are: -Organize my hooks into a manor that I do not spend as much time looking for "the right hook". -Work on putting hackle on a post. -Tie 5 of each pattern, opposed to tying one fly and then going in a totally different direction (ie. I'll tie a size 12 dry fly for bluegill then immediately end up tying a big bass popper). -Don't be afraid to tie on small hooks - especially for panfish. Sandan 0 Report post Posted Tuesday at 08:15 PM Hey Moshup, long time. Hope all is good with you and yours. Hmmmmm. Resolutions which I'm not a big fan of. Tie more, fish more. Complain less. Search out new patterns and continually tweak patters that work to work better. Of course that means I have to know when to stop tweaking. Oh well, I figure 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
