Question for "Lefties" and a Regal - Revolution Vise or other choices

Recommended Posts

I have been searching and reading about Regal - Revolution Vise and left-hand use, I'm left-handed.

I know about changing the clamp handle to left hand, but what about the clamp being balanced? The brass counterweight as it looks is to counter the handle weight (unless I'm wrong), and that weight stays in the right-hand position.

I'm on the wall about which vise to buy, between the Regal Revolution Vise or a Renzetti Presentation 4000 Left Hand.

I suspect you are right about the Regal counterbalance, unless it too can be switched to the other side (screw holes?).

Secondly, if you are truly going to use the rotary function of the vise to wrap bodies/hackle/etc. (and not just use it to flip over the hook/fly to access the bottom), then I personally don't think that the Regal is the best choice - Rensetti clearly makes some fine rotary vises and the 4000 clearly shows a left handed option.

Lastly, since you are in that premium price range, there are many fine choices . . . and I'm guessing some of them are left handed, or perhaps ambidextrous.  HMH (TRV), Dyna-King,  Petitjean, Stonfo, etc . . .

Regards,

p.s.  I'm sure you realize that your question has the potential to open the proverbial bucket o' worms - we on this forum are exceptionally good at that!  😉

Thanks for the replies.

I'm open to other brands as well. And not trying to cause any arguments. I just want the best for that $500-$600 price range that work for lefties. Also, I'm looking at trout or bass flies sizes, nothing saltwater.

I’m a lefty also ! I tie on the stonfo flytec lever Vise , it’s pretty much a right or left hand Vise , comes with 3 different jaws and a base and a clamp post as well as a parachute post , not bad for around 350 $ ? I can’t remember what I paid.

Lefty here.  Dyna-king professional. Does it all for me. Great minds for sure.

The counterweight on a regal revolution cant be switched sides. It is what it is. Is there a problem having the handle facing the front and using your thumb for squeezing it ?

I cant see the handle being in the way. Anyway i own 2 regal revolution, big game jaw and the stainless jaw used and abused for 10 years and still works like they were new. Only problem I snapped the handle on the stainless right at the bend. Contacted regal and to weeks later got a new handle free of charge no question asked.

I should have mentioned that Charlie is also a southpaw . . . not to mention a really friendly character!  😜

Regards,

I think he's a righty who ties lefty but I could be wrong. He is a very friendly guy and has a great sense of humor. If you can catch him in the shop he's one of the most helpful folks I've ever met too.
