Feather ID help-

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I was given this patch of feathers from an acquaintance who had family member, now long past that used to tie back in the 1970's.  It was hand labeled only with the word "duck".    The patch is in good shape. They seem like they could be from a duck, they are similar to CDC but a smaller size than typical and I've never seen natural CDC this color but then again I'm not a duck hunter.   If someone out there knows for sure what duck or bird they're from please let me know-

Total guess, but perhaps peacock body? If it weren't for the white I might also suspect Purple Gallinule.  Isn't there also a tropical pheasant that has those colors?

Thanks all for the replies - I’m suprised that I don’t have a definitive answer yet considering the membership here.

Chug, that looks reasonable and the colors seem right. I’ve never heard of a Golden eye duck until now (hopefully they’re not on the endangered list).  If I suddenly stop posting you guys will know what happened. 😂

It is wood duck crest or comb. I found the very same thing on my wood duck skin when I went looking for it to tie quagga mussels from the flank feathers. See the pics.
