Tied as described in Davie McPhail’s 2016 Youtube video with Hareline EZ Magic Dub instead of Veniards Easy Dub Micro Chenille for the body and Saber 7259 hooks (16 and 18) instead of a Fulling Mills FM1510 hook.

Mini Emerger

  • Hook- Curved Hook, 2x Short, 2x gape, TMC 2487, or a FM 5027 size 20
  • Thread- 12/0 (50DN) waxed
  • Tail - CDL or hen hackle
  • Rib - Wire, small
  • Body - Thread
  • Wing Case - Med. Holo Flash or Mirage Tinsel
  • Thorax - Dubbing, Ice Dub Squirrel blend
  • Legs - Midge Body Thread

It is not quite a Garcia’s Darth Baetis, in that I do not put epoxy on the body, which he believes is a big differentiator with other flies having a mere thread body.

Tying note

I did not saturate the body in head cement and flatten with pliers. To achieve the flattened body, i added lead wire on each side of the hook. I don't think the fish will object 😁🐟🐟

Been away for quite a while due to some personal reasons... At the ripe age of 37, I hit a rock bottom and am back on the right path with my life.  Forgot how much joy tying flies brought me until I just recently got everything out and set up my "tying station" again.  Here is one of the hoppers I tied just after the ball dropped for 2025.

Size 12 Hook, 140 denier thread, dark green dubbing, brown/yellow foam, deer hair (I believe), brown rubber legs.
