January Flies from the Vise

Recommended Posts

@niveker - yes sir, two different pieces of foam.  I got this pattern from watching Fly Tying Tex on Youtube.  He has it named as the GurgleHop.  Those are the only 2 i've tied thus far, but thinking more are to come with different color foam sandwiched in the middle.

What model and size of hook did you use for the GurgleHops?

Reply too neveker, the pattern I posted is my representation of a riffle devil with eyes painted on. It's really nothing special. I tied this hares ear grizzly hen tenkara esque fly a moment ago. It's kinda like a March brown flymph with out a tail.

Been away for quite a while due to some personal reasons... At the ripe age of 37, I hit a rock bottom and am back on the right path with my life.  Forgot how much joy tying flies brought me until I just recently got everything out and set up my "tying station" again.  Here is one of the hoppers I tied just after the ball dropped for 2025.

Size 12 Hook, 140 denier thread, dark green dubbing, brown/yellow foam, deer hair (I believe), brown rubber legs.

Good luck on your change of direction!!  Tight lines.

Couple of midge patterns. Both on 24. Ones a 2487 and the other is a 2488.

A Rick Takahashi biot midge pupa. That's the one with the glamour madeira gills and biot wing buds. Body is .05mm stretch magic.

The other one is a Hopper Juan pattern. The money midge. Veevus 16/0 brown, brown slim rib, head is thread colored black with a sharpie.
