My first popper painted with my airbrush.

Nice popper! I love the color scheme - perfect for spring Smallmouth around here. I'm guessing you're right about the hook placement through the foam. Who knows, it might even work better that way. I remember reading somewhere that the spoon lure was accidentally invented when a guy eating soup in the boat dropped his spoon in the water, and noticed how it fluttered and flashed as it sank through the water. Stranger things have happened. :)

My wife asked me to design her a fly, so this is what I came up with. Still working on a name:

Hook: Mustad 36890 #10

Thread: 6/0, cream (body), red (head)

Tag: fine oval silver tinsel

Tail: duck quill slips (claret)

Rib: flat silver tinsel backed with black ultra-wire on the trailing edge

Body: pink floss (Danville rayon)

Throat: Guinea hen hackle, natural

Wing: duck quill slips (claret married with narrow black on top edge)

I hope he didn’t have to eat his soup with a fork.

Maybe call it,  the missus? It's very nice no matter what you name it.
