I recently bought a Medalist 1494

Recommended Posts

A ringer.  It's in pretty good shape but it's got the old pattern reel seat.  I don't want to add much to the price I paid but I wonder if there is a solution other than taking a Dremel tool.  Advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks flytire.  But the reel feet prices are a bit out of my budget.  I have a rod that works fine with the original reel foot.  The reel I have is an old one, says "Patent Pending" on the spool.

I guess I don't understand the problem. I have a couple of those reels and didn't notice anything different. Can you enlighten.

I did some reading and I'm starting to understand now. The foot is too long for some rods. If I run into that problem with my reels, I'm grinding the foot. So far all I've had to do was some creative fit-work on the reel foot rings to accept the reel foot. IE squishing and squeezing.

I have rods that will accept the old-time Pfleuger Medalist rods, but it's a close thing.

Same with me. My reels never met a rod they didn't like completely though.

All but one or two of my reels, out of at least a dozen and a half, are Pfluegers, either Medalists or Gems.  I can't recall ever having an issue.

anything here that might help?

Parts | One-Pfoot

I thought One-Pfoot had gone out of business. Has it been taken over by someone and kept going? Website sure looks good.

Bob Selb at The Classic Flyfisherman in Lansdale, PA has a very good selection of Pflueger parts.
