Hardy’s Rover series

I got the Hardy Collection book from my wife at Christmas and I’ve been working on tying the Rover Series the past few weeks. I’m pleased with how they came out 
 

Silver Rover

Tag: Silver & magenta floss

Tail: Golden pheasant crest, tippet & red macaw strands

Butt: Bronze peacock herl

Body: Silver flat

Ribs: Silver oval

Hackle: Magenta down body

Throat: Light blue

Wing: Two scarlet hackles up the centre, strands of dark turkey with white tips, yellow, red, blue, bustard, golden pheasant tail, pintail, mallard, golden pheasant crest

Sides: Jungle & kingfisher

Horns: Blue macaw

 

Blue Rover

Tag:Silver & magenta floss

Tail: Golden pheasant crest, tippet strands, & crow

Butt: Black wool

Body: In three parts, blue floss with silver flat in centre, the whole ribbed silver oval

Hackle: Light blue down body, two turns orange at shoulder, & gallina throat

Wing: Two scarlet hackles, strands of turkey white tip, yellow, red, blue, bustard, golden pheasant tail, pintail, mallard, & sword peacock, golden pheasant crest

Sides: Jungle cock, kingfisher, blue macaw

Red Rover

Tag: Silver & blue floss 183

Tail: Golden pheasant crest & crow

Butt: black Herl

Body: In two sections, 1s red floss, rib silver, butted toucans & black herl, 2nd embossed gold, rib gold, with red hackle over gold 

Throat: blue 

Wing: Two scarlet hackles, strands of yellow, red, green, bustard, golden pheasant tail and Mallard 

Sides: Jungle cock and Indian crow 

Horns: red macaw 

 

Gold Rover

Tag: Gold & yellow floss 153

Tail: Golden pheasant topping & crow

Butt: Red wool

Body: In two sections, 1" gold flat, ribs gold, & butted toucans & red wool, 2nd orange floss, rib gold

Hackle: Light orange, deep orange, & gallina dyed orange

Wing:Strips light speckled turkey, strands of yellow, red, & blue, bustard, golden pheasant tail, pintail, mallard and golden pheasant crest

Sides:Jungle cock & kingfisher,

Horns: Blue macaw

 

 

Black Rover

Tag:Silver & red floss 166

Tail:Golden pheasant crest & redcrow

Butt: Bronze herl

Body: First half yellow floss, ribs gold, with yellow hackle over, second half, black floss, ribs silver flat & twist

Hackle: Black down, & gallina at shoulder

Wing: Strands of black turkey white tip, yellow, red, & purple swan, bustard, golden pheasant tail, pintail, mallard, golden pheasant

Sides: Jungle cock

Horns: Red macaw, crest

 

Grey Rover

Tag:Silver & red floss 166

Tail: Golden pheasant crest, sprigs of ibis, gallina,

Butt: Green peacock herl

Body: In two sections, I strip of grey quill taken from lower part of stem of blue or red macaw tail feather, & wound over yellow floss, showing rib of quill, butted grizzly hackle & green peacock herl, 2nd grey monkey fur*, ribs flat silver & twist

Hackle: Grizzly down fur, & blue guinea fowl shoulder

Wing: Light mottled turkey, yellow, red, green swan, bustard, golden pheasant tail, pintail, guinea fowl, mallard, golden pheasant crest

Cheeks: Kingfisher

Horns: Blue macaw

*subbed grey seal

I’ve fished a few and some friends have fished some too and got some Pink Salmon. If I’m honest, I prefer to fish much simpler flies but I can point to to a tree on the side of the Saugeen that has a Marlodge stuck in it.
