harleyhunter 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2005 Hey Guys, I tried to bend my Daiichi size 6 Nymph hooks but they break. I'm looking to bend them sideways to make my Stonefly Nymph and upward for my Crayfish patterns. Any and all help please. :help: :help: :help: :help: Best Wishes, Sam
fishyfranky 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2005 Geez, just bought 14 packs of 100 Daiichi's and they all say "HIGH CARBON FISHING HOOKS" on the box. Try using Classic Mustads because the steel seems softer. I bend 79580 to make 45 degree jig hooks and 3399A's are improved with an offset to the point. harleyhunter 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2005 So my Daiichi's are unbendable? Sam
Flytyer-1 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2005 You must first remove the temper from them by heating until the are red-yellow hot. Once cool, they can be bent to the shape you desire. Then they will need to be retempered. They must be heated back to a red hot color and immersed in a cooling agent such as motor oil. You can refer to the chapter in Tying the Classic Salmon Fly by Mike Radencich written by Eugene Sunday on hook making. It would be much easier to buy the Daiichi Stonefly Nymph Hook Model # 1730, sizes 4-14, however! Best from Nashville- Stack Scoville
