5wt 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2005 Was looking in the craft section at the "World's Largest chain of Department Stores" you know the one. And found chenille which was packaged like yarn in 100 yard bundle. Will it work for buggers etc.... There was a small diam. and large diam. I usually tie 8's and 10's so I should probably by the larger stuff. Anyone else use this stuff? Thanks.
Guest Report post Posted November 22, 2005 Oh yea, use it all the time! Great stuff and the same thing that is found in the fly shops. I personally never buy the big stuff, it is a little too big for my tastes.

Guest Report post Posted November 22, 2005 Personally, I would. The stuff that I have seen seems way to big for even a #6 hook and is much bigger than the stuff at the fly shops. I would go with the small stuff. I found a couple of rolls that had two colors wrapped together(brown and black) so I was able to get two colors for the price of one. Fly1 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2005 They also sell a sparkle chenille with little bits of mylar mixed in that I use for sparkle eggs and worm patterns. Usually in a package with 4 different colors. And in the fishing section they sell floating jigs heads that I dress up with fur or feathers for great and easy bass flies. fishyfranky 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2005 I use them too. Caron's Jewels is the name I think of the two colour strand chenille. Paton's Twister is also one of my faves. It has a strand of chenille and a strand of what looks like eyelashes. Both are useful. BTW, if you twist two small diameter chenille of different colours together you get this nice mottled look. It matches the look of pheasant rump in flys like Carey's Special.

Dad uses the craft store stuff. I have not run out of the other stuff yet so I have not used it.

Guest Report post Posted November 23, 2005 If you are only looking at pics of chenille on the web it probably does not look as large as it is. The stuff sold in crafts stores etc. is meant for knitting sweaters. Go with the smallest dia. that you can order.
