njflytyer 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 Is brown hackle substitutable for dark ginger in a case caddis application? I only have light ginger, not even medium. Brown is my only other choice.
jcstikfish 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 I would say absolutlely! Especially at a small nymph size. Saying this, I mean it will fish just as well. If you were tying for some sort of special presentation (shadow box, contest, photo) a well trained eye may notice the difference. Although the difference between the two can really be a wash comparing neck to neck. Is the NJ in njflytyer stand for New Jersey? If so, where are you located? Always good to see some fellow Jersey folk on the board. ~James
skunkaroo 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 I take it this is for something along the lines of the leadhead or peeping caddis? I would simply combine the light ginger with the brown (red brown if you have it). Wrapped together it should give the impression of a medium ginger. njflytyer 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 Is the NJ in njflytyer stand for New Jersey? Yeah, its me Jim (C&R from NEFF). I figured I'd get more responses to my tying inquiries on this site since its more geared towards it. So far, so good. Never even knew this site existed until today. See you in Somerset perhaps? I'll be there Fri and Sun with sstasiak most likely.
