longears 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2006 Now Termite , That was mighty nice of you to let those guys in on that! I had to put a 3 burner apt. sized stove down in my barn for that reason. I'm in the process of looking for a 2 hole stainless steel sink for rinsing. I'm surprised that you don't "soak" your feathers overnight in a soapy (dawn, grease cutter) solution to get the oils off of the feathers. The dyes take better that way. But,I mostly dye duck feathers and what chickens I kill of my own.
Termite 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2006 I do wash all of my dyed materials, although not over night. I wash with Dawn dish soap in warm water and I rinse them in warm water with some white vinigar added. I'm building a barn this spring and it has a processing room in it for skinning, drying and dying......but for now I dye in the kitchen (when my wife is at work ) Mark

Brian_A 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2006 I only have a few skins that Im going to keep. I have a bunch of tails though that I will trade someone for some materials that someone might be willing to part with. Ill have to figure out what I need. If you have extra of something let me know I might be able to use it.
