SullyTM 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2006  You're killin' me Fred! Have you ever attached a beadhead? Or, is this pattern meant to be fished "just" under the surface...The wiring probably is enough weight... Thanks...Thom
siestafred 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2006 Here's Version III. Reddish brown, for March Browns, Male Hendricksons, etc. Copper wire rib. Thom, I like to fish it just under. But his year I'm going to experiment with dropping it down as a nymph. I have not tried to add a bead to this, but no reason you couldn't. I've seen other patterns where the bead is used instead of herl, behind the hackle as a thorax. Cheers....Fred
SullyTM 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2006 Fred...I like the "just" under. I'd suggest a your 3 for my 3 but I won't this time 'round Went down to the "Creek" yesterday with a Siestafred Murky tyed on. The water was running HIGH AND FAST! Very dangerous! The banks were so muddy I would sink down nearly a foot. So I collected beer cans and bottles. Probably won't be down until the weekend! Maybe! Later...Thom
appalachian angler (tn.) 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2006 Nice soft hackles! I tie a very similar fly to the yellow pt one you have( and use the yellow pt but omit the herl thorax). It works great during the emergence phase of a good sulphur hatch! AA
siestafred 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2006 I'm sure that works great too. The herl just adds (presumably) one more trigger. Only the fish know for sure !!
appalachian angler (tn.) 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2006 I forgot to add that I put a dubbing looped ball of mixed rabbit hair in to form a small thorax and to flare the collar alittle. AA
