siestafred 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2006 Ok, the name is SullyTM's fault. These 'creative' types are always causing trouble. I would have just called it a Moose Mane Midge, but when he saw it he had other ideas! If you don't 'get' it, send him a PM, I'm sure he'd be glad to explain... SullyTM 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2006 I don't know Fred...Some of the Forumites might need a WABAC machine to understand the significance of the name This is a nice little fly and Fred is always coming up with new patterns...I've tyed up a few of these midges with and without the CDC feather. Just waiting for the rain to stop and the water to clear up so I can toss 'em. Thanks for sharing Fred. Thom

SullyTM 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2006 Now come on Fred...If I come back at ya with a pithy reply you and I will start sounding like those guys in Michigan :hyst: I did look at some #26 hooks the other day...shook my head and walked away However, this is a great little pattern...Can't wait to see Rocky and I'll give some thought to a Mr. Peabody design...on a 3/0 hook :yahoo: Thom
siestafred 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2006 Heaven forbid!! Seriously, when I first started tying 4 years ago a #14 seemed tiny to me! Last year I decided to do my best to go smaller, so over a 16 month period I went one size at a time from a #18 to a #26. And I could not have done it without a magnifier, so I got a $25 cheapo from Office Depot that holds a 60W bulb. Not fancy, but it does the 26 just fine, and I think I could go one or two smaller with it. Problem now is, Thom, half the time I can hardly even see these smaller flies on the water unless the light is right! Go figure ! SullyTM 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2006 OK Fred, so you're drawing a line in the sand...I'll look at the #26 again! Ever since AARP has been sending me literature I've been looking for something to make me feel younger. ...and yes, I use both a magnifying light and I wear glasses What have I got myself in to? :crying: Later...
