WYKnot 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2006 I ordered a McKenzie vise light today, just got tired of squinting in dimly lit hotel rooms. Tried carrying 100 watt fluorescent bulbs for a while, broke too many. Never been a big fan of vise-mounted lights, but old eyes and limited space in my DITY bag finally got the best of me. Guest Report post Posted May 30, 2006 You can't go wrong with the Mckenzie, I finally broke down and bought one in Feb. I was using a table top Ottlight that was always in the way, the vise mount is much better.
WYKnot 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2006 No, that it is an interesting set-up. I want to "invent" a rechargable vise light, something with a long flexible goose-neck, weighted base (that holds the power supply), and runs for hours between charges. The LED cluster seems like the way to go for extended run time.
jlsmithii 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 looking at the design, it appears that it won't work with a rotary vise. do they have a product that will? or must it be seperate from the vise?

I was using a table top Ottlight that was always in the way, the vise mount is much better. I borrowed a buddy's McKenzie light a few years ago, I think it is called the "Bright Light" these days. It was good, well-made, and got a little warm on the forehead when I slumped over the table too far (...or fell asleep). I opted for the smaller model this time, McKenzie Vise Light. Ashby 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 I got a Mckenzie a couple years ago and I would not have it any other way. I can't do anything without it. Here is the one I have. I know they make a few different types, but you can't go wrong with them. Ashby

WYKnot 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 I've taken the Mckenzie light on the road for 6 weeks now, 18 nights of tying, 11 different hotels, and it works great. What a difference having enough light makes when tying. I wish the power adapter were a bit smaller (its about the size of half a brick), but for now the benefit of the portable light is worth the extra pound. dontheo 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 I bought one a few months ago. It works well but is limited in it's adjustments. I have a Dynaking rotary vise and the horizontal arm is too short to move the light over the work and the verticle arm does not allow any forward adjustment. The light is okay for extra light. It does work ok with my travel vise as I can get the light closer to the work. Ted
