John,

That most definately is a stellar job you did on that one! What did you use for the hackle as far as brand/color or was it a self-dye job? I'm assuming it was a hen neck you used.

I used a standard Whiting American hen neck, kingfisher blue dyed over white. Ordered it just last week from Stone River Outfitters. I haven't started dyeing my own stuff yet, so I must rely upon the skills of others.

 

Don Bastian turned me on to the Whiting necks. They are very full, with thick webby barbules. Their barbule count is so high that I strip one side off for palmered wet-fly hackles. Fibers from the largest feathers can be used instead of schlappen for tails and throat hackles.
