Wet Flies by Ken Sawada

Recommended Posts

He tyes Salmon flies on the tapes........mostly originals........and he's incredable to watch........no wasted movement at all........(of course everything is "prepared" in advance).......fantastic to see how obvious it is that he has done hundreds of them in the past and that his every technique is so fine honed. There's a very interesting thing he does when he's mounting the wing on a Spey or a Dee........where he takes the thread under the tip of the shank and reverses the direction in which he is wraping the thread while mounting the far wing, temporarily.....( for just that prodcedure).....then gets going back in the correct (away from himself) direction for the near wing mount.......VERY cool. A "classic" example of innovating ways to "Make It Work." He is using a very old bobbin.......prolly the same one he's been using since the late 60's/early 70's. On his level, like anyone else on that level at what they do........technicl comparisons are simply out of order..........there may be many just as good, but there's no one better. It's just a matter of personall artistic taste, as to who your favorite(s) is/are. You don't compare John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins.......your simply in awe of both. Pablo Piccaso,.....Salvador Dalhie ...........Fred Astair,.....Gene Kelly........and on and on and on and............. mark B)
