My favorite brown trout fly is the Alvin.

 

This fly is deadly after the rainbow spawn when the browns cruise up and down looking for rainbow fry.

 

 

I tried to imitate this with a hot glue gun but that didn't work very well. Stuck it in the fly box, got to the river, and the body had melted to the yolk sak. Big mess.

My favorite brown trout fly is a zonker with a gold body and a barred reddish brown wing - it took my one and only wall mount, an 8 lb river brown - haven't caught much on it since but who cares? Stony, I've had similar experiences with hot glue - think I'll stick to epoxy

In my limited experience fly fishing for Browns, Dave Whitlock's Sheep Shad. It reminds me of my favorite Jerkbait for trout (Yo-Zuri Pins Minnow), and I've caught my biggest fly-rod trout on it (so far), a 17.5" Brown. I'd love to break the 2' mark on the longrod. Done it twice on Pins Minnows, and that fly produces as well as a Pins Minnow.
