Guest Report post Posted June 4, 2007 I went to Fountain Creek Park today and took a few more pictures. Quite a few I had to delete because they came out really dark due to a strong thunderstorm that came roaring through right after I got there. Luckily I found a pavillion to stand under till the rain stopped. Well I hope you all enjoy these half as much as I enjoyed taking them. And this little guy flew into the pavillian to his nest and let me take pictures of him. This last one was sitting on my sisters fence and posed for me. I'm thinking FTF might need to upgrade to a larger server for all these pictures in the photography section. Jim

KVRNut 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2007 These shots were taken early yesterday afternoon. Yes, you read it right, early yesterday afternoon. Had a weather system go through the area overnight and during the morning hours that dumped about 6-8 inches of wet snow where the first two shots were taken. Saw vehicles coming off the Big White ski hill with over a foot of snow on the roofs. The sign says KELOWNA ROCK CREEK SUMMIT ELEVATION 1265 m Part of the valley around Kelowna B.C. You can see snow up on the mountains towards the coast Ernie

Graham 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2007 I hadn't seen a lot of the newer photos here, really some great shots. I took a few shots today using a 300mm f/4, but the sun was still too hot and bright when I stoped by my local lake for a few minutes this afternoon. The bird would have looked nicer with warmer light late in the day, same with the flies on the flower. And I should have used a macro lens for the flower shot, but I'm sure I'll try again real soon...

Graham 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2007 Hey Andrew, I really like the 300 f/4, is very light weight, versatile and sharp. The auto-focus on my 70-200 is much much faster, especially with birds in flight, but the focal length is too short, especially for smaller birds. It's often a hard to decide which lens to carry, because I really don't like lugging both lenses around. Last summer at my local lake I met a photographer using the 300 TC-14 combo. I was using the 70-200 f/2.8and we swapped lenses for about an hour. I really liked the combo, reached out real nice, but I couldn't belive how slow the auto focus was. The herons and egrets at my local lake are accustomed to people being around and the 300 TC-14 combo was too much sometimes and birds wings got clipped. Someday, hopefully sooner than later, I'd like to get the 200-400 f/4. But if Nikon ever comes out with a new 400mm f2/8 with VR, that would be awesome, but a monster to carry. I sure hope to visit the Willamette Valley someday, we'll have a great time!!! Graham
Graham 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2007 Here's a pic I took yesterday evening using a 300mm f/4 lens, no tripod, a sunset view from my bedroom window. The floiage in the foreground is very close, but the dark area the the bottom is about ten miles away, the tops of the Santa Monica mountains. The sun was setting behind the mountians in Malibu. One of these days I need to drive to the beach and try taking a few sunset shots with water and rocks in the foreground.
