Carver 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2006 If not what do you think the surfer was thinking? I'll bet is was along the lines of "HOLY @##$$$##@#$$$##@#@"
James Daly 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2006 Google Kurt Jones. I think the third site is a surfer photo gallery. It's stating the pic is 100% real, not manipulated and that it's a dolphin!?! That's the biggest Dolphin I've ever seen. Looks more like a great white, the only thing that leads me to believe it is a dolphin is the dramatic curve to it's dorsal fin. Where as a shark has more of a right triangle shape to it's dorsal. Just my opinion though, if that's a shark and it was me, the shot would have a big brown spot in it!! -Jamie
billb 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2006 If the image is for real, it's a good thing that wet suits are easily cleaned. Bill
tightlines 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2006 If that was a shark, it could be a Tiger, they get big. I guess the shark could have thought the surfer was food and then realized as it got close that it wasnt. insane none the less.
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2006 Google Kurt Jones. I think the third site is a surfer photo gallery. It's stating the pic is 100% real, not manipulated and that it's a dolphin!?! havent been to that site, but they are full of BS if they are saying the pic is real That pic has been floating around the internet for at least the last 3 years now and in the original pic its just the shark in the wave, nothing else in the pic. Guys have been photshop'ing things into that pic for years now though...like surfers, fisherman, swimmers, etc etc... The shark in the wave might be real....but the sufer next to it is 100% photo shopped.
JJD 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2006 I have talked with the photographer that took the picture, Kurt Jones, on another photography forum. The picture is real and it has been licensed for use by a number of commercial entities. Theere is a second picture in the series where the surfer is out of frame. http://www.surfshooter.com/DolphinInfo.html And the Snopes.com Urban Legend reference page (beware a few innocuous pop-ups) http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/surfer.asp

Faster Fish 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2006 that is a dolphin. look at the two pics, the one without the surfer in it...notice the tail? it is horizontal and not verticle...dolphins have horizontal tail fins...sharks have verticle. its a dolphin. -sniksoh- Look it up. Sniksoh is correct. There are some species of dolphins that get that big. But that doesn't mean that it was friendly.
DaUP 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2006 dolphins can still bite though
sniksoh 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2006 dolphins have also been known to kill sharks...there was a study of it and i watched it on the discovery chanelle...thay ram the sharks with thier blunt noses at like 40 mph until the kill it!!! also notice in the first pic... there is a faint shadow underneath the dophin, only dolphins travel in packs...sharks dont. or that may be her baby!...but still, sharks dont care for thier young either. anyone know why...because shark are fish...and dolphins are mammals. sharks lay eggs...dolphins dont. dolphins and whales are the only underwater mammal that actually carries their young, and gives birth. have dolphins ever attacked people i wonder? im gonna look into this. cutthroat.trout 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2006 Hammerhead sharks are known to school, wouldn't surprise me if there were other shark species shaped more like the one in the photo you're speaking of (not hammerhead) that also schooled. BTW, I too agree it's a dolphin. Regardless though it's a great photo. --cutthroat.trout

Fry Flier 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2006 Yep it was photoshopped and chopped. If you look to the left of the surfer and blow the picture up 250 -350 % you wil see a hand shape clone mark that is repeated about a 10 + times in the pic. 2or 3 just left of the surfer's waist and a few a just below the sharks snout but waist high again on the surfer. Same mark appears in several places in the pic.
