4th learned pattern: Klinkhamer

Hi guys! So now i jumped on my fourth pattern in learning how to tie flies =)

Went with the fly i love the most and catched most fishes on : Klinkhammer =)

Any ideas about how to improve these? This is my first second and third attempt

The first thing I would do is make the body longer so it progresses right up to the bend, other than that nothing wrong with em!

Thanx =) Ok, i been thinking the same way.. since when i look at them now the body feels to short. When i tie them i dont see anything

I agree you might want to make the body a tad longer, you could also make the trailing shuck a tad longer.

Very good looking fly. Agree with others, maybe a little longer body and shuck BUT that fly will catch plenty of fish. Very nice job on a great pattern. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

That is a great job. We did a Klick swap last summer and that would have been nice to have. Check out the old swap thread to see pic's of what was tied up.

Not sure this is a klinkhammer but ive been playing around alittle and heres a variant from today.

I love tying these flies since they look good and are fast n easy =)

A piece of brown/transparent 1/8" scud back about 3/16" long makes a really effective trailing shuck on Klink-style patterns. It's pretty neutral buoyant and looks like the real thing.

One trick that i learnt at the British Fly Fair for Klinks, is to wind one turn of bare hackle stem around the post......Somehow this stops any fibres from sticking up.

 

Also.....If you want some seriously good klinks then get your hands on some of that Mirage tinsel (fine), and use it as a rib. Also add some micro krystal flash to the post.......If you tie some of these you will be laughing :hyst:

 

They work great on the chalkstreams, especially the grayling...so guess they will work for where you fish.....

Knoxy, you mean to start winding the bare stem one turn on the top of the post? then wind the hackle down the post?

 

 

MTtyer, you got a picture of a klink tied that way?

 

 

These two are from todays tying. I used Klinkhamer Extreme hooks size #16.

 

 

 

 

And after looking at the real thing, i tried to make a imitation of it =)

WOW! Nice klink, whats the ribbing material? If I'm right that photo is of a buzzer, there quite small so the imitation needs to be small aswell to get the best out of it. What size did you tie it in?

The ribbing is red fatfloss that i took a third from.

The hooksize is #16.
