troutguy 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2006 Hey is anyone else aware that the Patent patterns contest is ending in Flyfishing and Tying Journal? Not sure why. I called the magazine twice and got a different reason each call. They did tell me to email the editor. His email if anyone else is concerned is [email protected] The last call said that Jim is doing other projects........ (not sure if that rang true) If Jim is really doing another project, they should have someone fill in. I like JimSchollmeyer, hope they did not force him out. CapeBSalar 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 Gee's this would be aweful. I really like that feature and it's one of the main reasons I buy this magazine. I finally got the nerve to enter the contest for the Steelhead for Winter 2007 issue and it was the first time one of my flies was photographed in a print magazine. I think this column is a great showcase for fly tyer's to display their craft and to have a chance to win some great prizes. not only that, the flies are donated to a collection for future generations and many of the winning patterns were featured in a great book, an excellent reference for fly tyer's, "Pattent Patterns". I sure hope this isn't the case, I will be emailing the editor to voice my concerns, perhaps others should do the same to show their support.

steelie 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 Good Day, I too thinks this sucks :butt: ... I could care less about the prizes. It is the patterns that I am interested in. I actually purchased my subscription to the magazine because of the Patent Patterns portion of the mag. It is what made them different formall the rest... now they will just be anther fly mag... I may not renew my subscription now... Steelie

troutguy 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2006 I sent two emails on Friday. I have not heard anything. Does anyone have a fly in the scud or steelhead contests?

Alex C. 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2006 There used to be a monthly challenge feature here on FTF where each month SD would pick a different fly and anyone who wanted to could post a picture of how they tie it, or a variation, or just a normal one. The first one was a wooly bugger, then a clouser, then a couple others. Then when summer came along and most guys were concentrating on fishing it kind of just died. I'm willing to bet that if there was enough interest this could be brought back to life. I'll repost this in the site help and suggestion forum, actually, why don't we just do it We don't need anyone's permission What kind of bug should we start with? troutguy 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2006 I think that a monthly contest would be cool Alex, but we have the yearly contest now and this would kind of compete with it. Did anyone ever get a reply from the magazine? I saw that quite a few people looked at this post. Not sure if anyone emailed.
Steve P 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2006 I think it might be better if it wasn't so much a contest but more of a monthly "photo swap" just every month post a particular pattern then anyone who wants can post a pic and short description of how they tie that particular pattern. I know I woudl say "I'm in" nearly every month that would be cool as all get out to go with flies for the seasons during spring go with popular nymphs then in summer go with different dry hatches or terestials in early fall then streamers then.... possibilities are endless aren't they I wanna do it cmon' guys lets see if we can get this started.
