dabalone 0 Report post Posted February 29, 2004 Looks just like the flys we use here for the King salmon. Haven't tried one with yellow wings, nice.
Guest Report post Posted February 29, 2004 Nice first try there Bob. Find some longer hackle for the body to give it that long, flowing look. Pheasant body feathers or maribou are good, inexpensive choices.

Frank G. Swarner III 0 Report post Posted February 29, 2004 Nice fly, nice tie!! You gotta start somewhere!! Before you know it, you'll be hooked!! Pardon the pun. I like the skinny yellow wing. What is the green hackle in the front? Fish-N-Chip
Guest Report post Posted February 29, 2004 Now what would make you think that the Old Steelhead Dude would ever let him self get hooked on tying Spey flies? LOL. Chip the Green hackle is Guinea hen body feather dyed Green I ordered some spey hackle from the first Whiting Co-Op but they never came they were back ordered and I still haven't gotten them. So I'm stuck trying to make do with the hackle I have Thanks OSD.
BearsDenWoodshop 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2004 The fly isnt bad OSD -- Like the reader above I would make the fly flow a little more..looks a bit like a croos between Atlantic Salmon/Spey Fly. TRy using marabou. Fun to tie speys with...I have caught many many steelies fished slow and close to the bottom on marabou speys. I wet my fingers and moisten the hackle ...sweep it all to one direction and wrap around the hook shank. hThen I blow on it or use a hairdryer to open up the fly. Works great.
