Guest Report post Posted February 18, 2007 With the generosity of the moderators at RodBuildingForum.com we have put together a raffle in hopes that we can raise the necessary funds needed to ensure that the forums remains the unique community that it is. As with some of the auctions we have had recently these funds will be used toward the operating cost of all of the sites in our network including; FlyTyingForum.com, TalkFlyFishing.com, RodBuildingForum.com and HatchesMagazine.com. Every month it cost a little more to keep all of these sites open and for example last week we actually ran out of room on the server so I had to upgrade the storage space to 50 gigs! At $3 per gig(per month) for the storage alone you can only imagine the bill that I receive every month. It is our goal to raise $1000 from this raffle. Steve will be building a custom fly rod and for anybody that has not seen his rods they are perhaps the nicest fly rods that you will ever see. Here is a list of components that Steve has received to build the rod. Steve will be building the rod within the next few weeks and he will be keeping us updated on the build process. I will be doing a custom built rod that will be raffled off through all 3 sites. Best part is...this isnt just any old run of the mill rod or parts. The blank is a "Golden Olive" CTS Maxium 9' 4wt donated by Andy dear of Lamar fishing tackle http://www.lamarfishing.com/ The CTS Maxium is a very high dollar blank ($170 for just the blank). The reel seat is a beautiful seat with nickle silver hardware from Bellinger http://www.genuinebellinger.com/ . And the grip is a very nice grip that was custom turned by Bill (Whirnot) and is a mix of high grade cork and exotic cork. You may purchase 1 ticket for $10 or 3 tickets for $25. To purchase a ticket you can send the money via PayPal to: [email protected]. Please indicate your member name in the "Notes" field when sending payment To pay by check or cash send payment to(make checks payable to Will Mullis): Will Mullis III attn: raffle 16 Huntington Ave Amelia, OH 45102 The drawing will be held once we have reached our $1000 goal. We we no longer sell any tickets once the goal has been reached so that each ticket will have a 1 in 100 chance of winning(those will additional tickets obviously have greater odds at winning). I will conduct the drawing and it will be held using a computer program that will give me a random winner based on all the entries. For example if you buy 3 tickets your name will be inserted 3 times into the program, with 1 ticket you will be added once. After the grand prize is drawn I will draw the names for the various additional prizes that are donated. I can give you my word that this raffle will be held with the utmost honesty! I would like to say that none of this would be possible without the generosity of the moderators, you guys are true friends and what you are doing is more appreciated that any words I could ever express. Good luck to everyone and remember your contribution gives you the chance to win this great fly fishing outfit while helping this site continue to give you all a community to share some stories, flies and laughs. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Thanks everyone! Will http://www.rodbuildingforum.com/uploads/ga...d65efd3cf47.jpg

Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2007 Work has begun on the raffle rod. I now have the Bellinger seat mounted to the blank. I spent about 40 mins recessing the custom grip by hand with a file to make sure it was a perfect fit for the front hood, so the recess is done and the grip is mounted. Next I will be ordering a Nickle silver winding check to go on it as well as a fold down hook keeper. We are at $660 on our goal of $1000 so if you havent got any tickets yet be sure to do so before its too late. This rod is going to be a real eye poper

arkfisher 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2007 Just sent my 25$ When will the drawing be held?
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2007 The drawing was going to be held soon as we reached our goal of $1000...which we figured would be some time after the rod was completed, but this has been such a big success so far I think the $1000 worth of tockets will be sold before the rod is done I should have the rod completed and all ready for its new owner within about 3 weeks. Most likely the tickets will be sold out by then so thats about the time frame we are looking at for doing the computer generated drawing. And I can't believe that you all thought it would take any time at all to reach $1000. That's just 40 people getting in with their $25. I raced to PayPal after seeing the notification, thinking I was hard up against the deadline. The rod looks absolutely amazing by the way, just based on the pics you posted in the RBF. It will be WELL worth the wait!
