Kodiak Commando 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 Trout are just different up here so you won't find your Traditional trout flies and go to, although they do work. Anytime but the fall for trout up here I would say a size 4 olive bunny fly with barbell eyes or a conhead, also a size 6 olive wooly bugger. In the fall I would say a bead but since it's not a "True Fly" (ALthough i use them a lot) I will say a articulated flesh fly.

Trout Bum 68 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2007 I've had most of my luck with a bead head Olive Hare's ear size sixteen. I could probably just stay with it and be okay, but I just can't help myself from continuously trying new and different patterns. I would probably benefit from remembering that often the old stand by's are the best.
blackdog1101 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2007 If there's nothing obvious happening I'll probably tie on an orange scud or an olive caddis pupa. If there's something happening bug-wise, then it's "match the hatch."
madkasel 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2007 elk hair caddis. works for cold, and warm water fish. Indeed! It was my top trout producer last year... and top bluegill producer. If the gills weren't hitting on top, I'd let the fly get wet and fish it like a streamer. Absolutely killer. Always the first fly I tie on. For nymph, I generally go with a beadhead PT. ron P. 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2007 Early Spring & Autumn: size 14 Adams Late Spring & Summer: size 12 Partridge and Orange note: 95% of my year's fly fishing takes place along Pennsylvania's freestone streams.
Moxie 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2007 Hmm this is pretty interesting to see all these different patterns For me for trout my go to pattern usually is a size 12-16 cream caddis. It always seems to get fish. I think its the peacock haha For bass and warmwater, probably just some sort of popper, bass love the sound
Fly_guy_stu 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2007 In the summer it has to be the "sedgehog". That fly is awsome! I used to be partial to a "fritz stinger" but the body was often too bulky and the hook gape wasnt wide enough which resulted in many lost fish. I haven't found a suitable hook to tie them up for myself :/
stinky 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2007 I think mine would have to be the old elk hair caddis with a dropper of secret nymph.
picketpin 0 Report post Posted March 6, 2007 If there is no hatch then my go to is a Picketpin fish it as a dry or a wetTight lines Mike
jereme 0 Report post Posted March 6, 2007 Pheasant tail nymph or hares ear can almost always get it done for me. I often go to the royal coachman for surface action.
