Steelie Junkie 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2004 Found these small stoneflies crawling over the snow and ice when I was fishing on one of the Grand River feeder creeks several weeks ago. I know they're a species of stonefly, but kind is it?

Frank G. Swarner III 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2004 Just checked in a basic entomology book "A Guide to Common Freshwater Invertebrates of North America" by J. Reese Voshell Jr. He notes two of them: Winter Stoneflies - Plecoptera:Taeniopterygidae Small Winter Stoneflies - Plecoptera:Capniidae The book only has drawings of the insects in the nymphal stage. uncletube 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2004 Thanks for the rest of the name OSD. We do have a few here but not in enough numbers for a serious hatch . Tube

Guest Report post Posted March 16, 2004 I gotta go with OSD on this one...Looks like a Tiny Sone to me....I have seen a few around here in KY recently.....Midges are hatching every where right now, but I did have a lone Mayfly land on my rod a few weekends ago when the temp reached an unseasonable 78.....first mayfly I seen since last August....
