Need Bottles

Recommended Posts

After looking at the PRICES for a fly tying station at BPO, I've decided to build one. I do some woodworking & I've gotten some ideas about how I want it to look. But I want to put some of the small plastic bottles with the snap on caps along one side to put hooks, beads, etc in. Can anyone suggest where I might be able to find them? Do they sell them at the drug store? Or is there a mail order, fly-tying materials site where I can get them? I did a search at J Stockard for both "Jars" and "Bottles" but came up with a blank. Any ideas?

Thanks

also BioQuip.com sells plastic vials with snap tops in many different sizes. You could also try Lab Safety Supply www.lss.com too.

Consider reusing empty 35mm film canisters. No cost and you're keeping plastic out of the landfill. Use a Sharpie magic marker to label the top.

I've found some pretty good storage canisters at Hobby Lobby here...they work great!

I purchased mine from United States Plastics Corporation. They ultimately had the best selection of sizes and prices as well as not requiring the purchase of a certain amount. Also, I constructed the following walnut/maple fly tying station which might help you with some ideas regarding building one of your own.

Like Buzby said film canisters. My local Walmart photo lab will give em to you free if you ask. The clear/translucent ones dont look all that bad.

The idea of using 35mm plastic film containers is a good one. Try and find the semi-transparent ones, you can see whats inside fairly well. Try asking one of those 1 hour film processing places, they should have lots of them, and you can usually get them for free.

Also look at the plastic coin holders that collectors use. They have a screw on cap and are clear, come in different sizes. I use the quarter size to keep most used dubbing in front of me on the desk. Think I paid 25 cents each for them. Look around at one of those stamp/coin shows at the local mall.
