Ashby 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2007 Well I finally made it out here again. Less than a 6 month break and back at it BIG time. I got out here and it was pretty much a mess as far as some of the people we have here. Just took a little one on one, two on one and things are now flowing like they should. Sorry I have been unable to get on here sice getting here on the 9th. I have been busier this time than any time in the past. Like I said, we have a few bone heads out here that had no clue as to what hurry the hell up meant. So I explained it to them in a nice way...well maybe not so nice but they got the point. Basically what took us 8 hours to do last year, we are doing in 2 1/2 hours now. It's unreal the pace we run now. Other than all of that mess, everything is going very well. Every time we go up, it has a high priority attatched to it, and thank God the planes are doing what they are supposed to do. We've not had the pleasure of any 20 hour days so far, thank God! Of course I have a little over three months left so anything can happen. As it stands right now, we are right between two countries that hate each other, and one of them has Nuke capabilities. If that doesn't make the hair stand, nothing will. Oh yeah, and they both dislike us just a bit lmao. Bring um on! I have a few pics for now and will be taking a few more on my day off. The pics I'm going to put on here are of the place we were stuck at for a few days before finding a flight down here. In one of the pics, you will see the flight line, from the bus view. Yeah, that was the invisible plane that we were supposed to get on. We got out to where the plane was supposed to be at and the driver was like "where the hell is it" You just know you are in trouble when the people that plan this stuff have no clue as to where their planes are lmao. It was all take well by us. We laughed it off, got back to the terminal only to find out that they had lost our luggage. Between the terminal and the invisible plane, they lost our luggage. Anyway, here are the pics. I'll try to explain them as They go. This one is a night shot towards main base a pic of my tent, these babies fit 50 people in them a pic of the big top that everyone hangs out at come night time inside the big top the coffee shop I spent a little bit of money (we get spoiled at times) another pic of the big top the invisible plane, see it yet lol us after the visit to the invisible plane us waiting again the night after the invisible plane on a C-130 on our way (thank God it wasn't invisible) This is a pic of a C-5 here that I just happened to get an awesome shot of Well that is all I have for now. I will try to get on here a little more as things start flowing normal around here. Take care all. Ashby

Ashby 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2007 Thanks for the posts and well wishes. A big thanks from the guys I'm here with as well. Things here are actually starting to flow very well. I'm pretty proud of the guys. If I were told last year that we would have to do the things we are doing right now, I would have said there is no way. I didn't think it was possible to turn this plane that fast. A turn is the time it takes to put it back in the air after it comes down. Last year it was taking us 12 hours to do. Northrop Gruman (the builders of the plane) said it could be done in 8 hours. This year it only takes us three hours from the time the wheels touch the ground, until the wheel leave the ground. You talk about 24 hour coverage, it's amazing to watch it happen. When it's all over at the end of the day, you can actually say you did one hell of a job. Especially when it was once thought to be impossible. The heat here is not that bad now, it's only around 110 to 115. The good part is, I sleep through most of that seeing how we work at night. Well I just got word, we are a half hour out, so I have to go catch this one and put it back up. I'll put some pics of an awesome sunrise later when I have the time. It's pretty awesome looking. Take care! Ashby

Ashby 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2007 Mike, everytime I see your avitar, it just freaks me out that a person tied flies that small, that rocks :headbang: Gill Buster, I'm not sure what the mag is in the pic, but if I come across one I'll let you know and get it out to you. As for the pics I talked about with the sunset. I never thought a sunset in the desert would be beautiful, but I was wrong. Granted, it does have watch tower in it, but I think it just ads to it. Hope you like it, it's pretty cool. Ashby
