Beadhead wovens

Recommended Posts

Well now that i have the dog hair thing answered, I have another question, has anyone tied beadhead woven flies and if there are any certain colors i should use? I tie woven nymphs all the time, but never tried with beadheads, thanks.

A little bit different than perhaps what you are asking...but I tie a midge pupae pattern that has a thread underbody, 3-4 spiral wraps of flashy rib material, and a woven overbody of clear monofilament thread. The clear woven overbody gives the a translucent glow to the fly underwater. I tied with glass beads and metal (brass, tungsten) beads depending upon hook size and intended destination. In this case, I've used cream thread (Danville 6/0), a perlescent flash rib, and a brass bead.

Thats a cool little pattern there WYKnot, i may have to steal that one.

:D

Go for it. Other thread/rib/bead variations that I have used: gray/blue flash/black glass bead, yellow/orange flash/brass bead, red/red flash/white glass bead.
