day5 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2007 A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by day5: crest spey
day5 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2007 Id like to give some speys a try this year. I had this idea today of adding crest feathers under the wing. Id like to lower the wing and make the head smaller. I know that the more I tie in the harder it will be. I need a different hackle and maybe start it at the mid point. Also the last part of the body is dubbed I realize that it is also lifting the wing. But I really like the look of the crest.
Ronn Lucas 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 I'd say loose the crest. Try to find some hackle with longer barbs. Also, to get the wing down, trim the barbs off the top and upper sides of the body. Taper off the dubbing from the last rib so you end up with no dubbing at the wing tie in area. You will find that the more bulk you can get rid of from 9:00 to 3:oo, the better and easier the wing will sit low.
