Redwings1 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 Here is another one I am tying up tonight for this weekend. Moose tail, deer hair, and dry hackle make this pattern float like a cork and is fairly durable. Hopefully it will fool some fish
sage8wt 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 Thats friggin sweat man! It will surely turn some heads. Be sure to tie up enough of those and if no spinner fall is happening, just cut off the hook and throw 'em out there....create your own hatch!
letumgo 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2007 Great pattern, Mike. Looks like a very effective fly. You may want to tye up a couple for slow water as well (trim the hackle under the hook to make it float in the surface film) What do you call it?
Redwings1 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2007 Thanks Guys. I don't recall where it was that I first saw this pattern, but it is not an original so I just call it a Brown Drake Dry since I am not sure if there is a true nam for it.
Bugsy 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2007 What do you call it? That looks like a Harrop Hairwing Dun, though I don't think I've seen a drake version. Beautifully tied.
Hot Tuna 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2007 That is definitely a variation of the Harrop hairwing dun....my favorite larger mayfly imitation. Mike, that fly will fish better with a V notch cut out of the bottom of the hackle. Good luck this weekend; Housie and Farmington fish in our area were both responsive to that style fly this week for Cahills and larger sulphurs. Don't forget to stripe a few with some glo in the dark flashabou on top of the wing
Redwings1 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2007 Don't forget to stripe a few with some glo in the dark flashabou on top of the wing I have much larger Hex flies already glow striped and ready to be ripped apart by little teeth John
