justinl8688 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2007 ya i have been reading some reports an they are catching lots of salmon up there now, I just want to get into a big lake brown trout, but a salmon wouldn't hurt haha i'll just have to keep watching the weather. VERN-O 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2007 justin.....I would wait a bit longer....the Salmon ir running at 100cfs right now (about a third what it usually at this time) (I'm hearing they have the fish pretty much cornered in the lower end of the river) There haven't been any huge runs of fish yet......a fair run of cohos....if you're after a big lake brown wait til early November and hit some of the tribs between erie and the Salmon......just my 2cents.......I'm itching to get out as well Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

willowhead 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 Justin, if you want the best lowdown you'll ever get, call Fran Verdaliva at the Alltomont (sp?) Hatchery. I think you can get ahold of him there. He was my guide the first time i ever went there. He's now the "river keeper", or was the last time i looked. Nobody knows the river any better. He's a very serious conservationist, in the sense of doing what is right by the fish.............of course it is an artificial fishery. The Lake Trout are bout the only native fish. Browns, bows, steelies, ANY type of Salmon (except for the Atlantic perhaps) are all non-native.........although some are wild. Wild and Native are two entirely different things. Without the hatchery there would be no fishery as we know it. It's a great place to fish, but like someone said, WAIT til Nov. It's a much more pleasent experience then......................wiffout the Yahoos. There are some pretty rough charactors up there in Oct. and they have no ethics whatsoever. It's a sickening sight to see how they operate. Go for the Anglers experience, not numbers........swing Marabou Speys and have a ball. All you really need is a Black or Purple Stonefly............don't fish with egg patters Bro. any moron can do that. You got nothin' to prove..............but so much to gain by knowin' your a real Angler. Keep your standards high. Just mho. mark..... Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Don't be afraid to throw some big streamer flies/buggers in the lower river too......you will be amazed at some of these fish chasing down a fly that are fresh out of the lake!! Also most tribs (smaller ones) are pretty much bone dry right now!! Word on the street is that the Lower Fly Zone is now closed until 11/15/07!!! Dale 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2007 You heard right Vern-O. The LFZ is closed until Nov 15th. Got it from the horses mouth yesterday evening. We've gotten 2 days of rain and the outlook says we may get a solid 2 more days of lake-effect parked over the Tug for the weekend. That will help out. I hope it puts some water in the other tribs too. They're in bad shape as well. Here's a pic of some Ho's that are stacked like cord wood in one of the smaller tribs. This one usually has 5 to 10 cfs coming down it. Now there's abour 0.25 cfs and the fish can't get up any farther. I just hope someone with less than honorable intentions stumbles into it. VERN-O 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2007 Dale I'm heading to the River tomorrow......I agree the rain we are getting will help a little....hard to believe the Tug had 10 feet of snow 10 months ago, and now we are with out any sort of real precip.
