letumgo 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 Very nice fly. I can't believe how small the head is on this fly. I tend to have a lot larger head when I wrap back over the stem.
Kevin Compton 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 Mtn, Nice Spider. Your pattern description doesn't say which hook you're using?
mtn 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 Thanks guys. Letumgo, I used a hen hackle which is pretty easy to double over and then wrap so it sweeps back without having to wrap back over the stem. Kevin Compton the hooks is a size 10 Fulling Mill 31530 (Competition Heavyweight).

Trout Bum 68 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 Mtn Very nice. I tie my soft hackles the very same way, it seems to be quicker for me at least.
lonewolve 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2007 Mtn, Very well tied softhackle ,this will work on most of the streams and the Delaware River for lil yellow stoneflies, too bad all i have is mustad pre china hooks, and daiichi 1530's . Great job. Softhackles have been a regular staple on the Lehigh River (my home river) as well as the Pocono and North Central Pennsylvania streams. Im looking foward to more soft hackles. mtn 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2007 Kevin, I had a look on the Fulling Mill website and I can't find a barbless model, I usually just pinch down the barb with some pliers. Thanks Chris, yep its persalls. Its the lighter yellow rather than the darker shade.
