Penobscot Fly Fishers' Fly Tying Symposium

Recommended Posts

The Penobscot Fly Fishers' Fly Tying Symposium is being held on Sunday, Oct

14 from 9 am to 4 pm at the Brewer Auditorium. We have 25 tyers attending

tying dry flies, saltwater, streamers, hairwing and classic featherwing

salmon flies, clousers, etc. There will be some materials/hooks and flies

for sale and these tyers are a wealth of knowledge and always willing to

share their techniques with others. The show is open to the public and

FREE so spread the word. There will be coffee in the morning, snacks

throughout the day and fish chowder, beef stew and baked beans for lunch

(donations gladly accepted).

Grab a friend and come on over and "set a spell". There may even be a door

prize or two.

Don

Hi Donald, so how did it go????????? Good turnout?????????? I sure hope so. I started a fly tying show in 2005 called the Clearwater Junction, whihc is a fund raiser for the Theodore Gordon Flyfishers Conservation Fund. We had about 50 tyers the first year and about the same in '06, then this year we had 65 and the show has reallybegun to take off. We added vendors this year and had real good success with that. It's a two day show with a dinner after the show on the second day and we also raise money at the dinner with auctions, both silent and live. If you'd like to see the web-site, (which is still in it's infancy for 2008) you can go to http://www.ClearwaterJunction.com and have a look around. There's not much up yet for next years show but if you'd like to contact my co-hort, (who will take over for me next year and run the show), Mark Thompson, he can be reached at [email protected] or at [email protected] THIS BTW, is YOUR official invite to tye with us next year. If you have eyes to do so, you need to contact Mark ASAP! We are already filling up with tyers and will have to cut it off soon and start a reserve/wait list. Please have your local club members contact Mark if any of them would like to tye at next years show. The CJ2008 will be June 6th and 7th, 2008 in Roscoe, N.Y. from 9 a.m. til 4 p.m. each day with lunch being served, door prizes, casting and tying lessons (for children and adults) , bamboo rod building, antique and collectable books for sale, artwork and artist actually painting, scroll saw artist at work, collectable and vintage tackle for sale, and materials vendors. Tell all your guys that the Coffin Flies are commin' down each eve. as well. Take care and get back at Mark ASAP. mark j. romero (willowhead) B)
