Capt. Matt C 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2007 Do any of you use this brand? I have a few and have been happy with them so far but I haven’t been hackling many dry flies lately either. It also only cost 20 some bucks. What do you think?
flykid 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2007 I use them because they were reccomended to me by my local fly shop. They are also affordable and I don't use dry fly hackle a whole lot. They seem to do the trick for me.
Bruce Derington 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2007 Keough hackle has some great feathers. The best deal is his tiers grade. He has $60.00 necks if you think you need it. He's as good or better than most. A local guy out of Mi. :headbang:
arkle 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2007 His capes/saddles are very well priced and the dyed ones, at least those I have seen are consistent and well finished i.e. not cooked and have flexible skins.
flykid 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2007 Oh Yea. In my post I was referring to the Tyer's Grade hackles.

Chad Trout 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2007 I use Keough Hackle good stuff and the price is right. I was in fly shop recently and came across a tyers grade cree for only $20.00. I thought it was mispriced I even asked the guy and he said well thats what it is priced at so do you want or not. Oh yeah. I took it. It will make tying adams a breeze. Ephemerella 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 And Bill Keough is likely to be at the Somerset show--he was last year. I got some great stream saddles from his booth.
GunnerDonn 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2007 Hackle to a dry fly tyer is serious business. I'd love to have a fly for every neck I've graded. When it comes to quality hackle, it is something you often have to spend a little extra for but it is worth it in the long run. I have used Keough as well as many other brands and find that you just have to get right let your fingers do the walking. I love the Whiting capes and have gone through hundreds of them to find the ones I can use; unfortunately most of them have bad cupping and are not as useful in the smaller sizes unless you run into a good one. All part of the fun.
day5 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2007 Bill has some nice stuff! I drive by his compound a few times a month I'm always looking for the open door and the loose chickens running around. As far as his being in Mi. Well that is a bonus cause our economy is the worst in the country so I try to do my best to buy Michigan made when I can. If he is at mason be sure to hit his booth early. He usually has boxes of capes that are not quite up to snuff for mostly little things like size/ length etc. Some are a great deal at $8.00 each!!!!!! Feathermc normally has te same deal
flykid 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2007 day5, when is the Mason show? I recall it being in Michigan but can't remember what time of year it is. I didn't get to go last time so I would like to try to this year.
