vtflyhack 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2007 I decided to give salmon flies a chance, after attending the Catskills Fly fishing museum, show two weekends ago in Danbury Ct . I am not looking to tie show worthy flies just yet, just ones that might catch fish. I have been tying one pattern a night, taking my time and tying to focus on the portions for the tag. butt, and tails. It has been a lot of fun so far. I had some fustrations in getting material, but I focused on getting what I needed to tie a bunch of patterns with similar materials. Please give some feed back on what I have tied so far. The Rusty Rat on top is my fav so far. vtflyhack

utyer 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2007 Only when Salmon, Steelhead, and other fish start sitting as judges for fly tying competitions will you have to tie better flies than what you have. Sure there is room for improvement, I would try for smaller (shorter) heads, and smooth out the floss wraps. The fish should be the only judge that matters. Those flies will catch fish. willowhead 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 Very, very nice tyes for sure. Fish catchers no doubt. YOUR the real judge. Not the fish or other tyers. In the end, YOU have to be happy with your work. And if the very fact that they catch fish makes you happy.....you've succeded. But i have a feeling your after even more than that, or you would of never ask for opinions. Wish we would of met up at Danbury. Make SURE you come to the show in Roscoe, N.Y. on June 6th and 7th, '08. http://www.ClearwaterJunction.com mark.....
