oatka 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2007 2 days ago I had my 9th Monthly Guys, Flies & Pies meeting, it was our 7th night tying. We have gone fishing for 2 of those months! Here's my review! Well December 1st turned out to be our smallest group of tiers ever, although we had only 3 guys for our first fishing trip. It turned out fine because I woke up sick Saturday morning and although I felt better by GFP, it was nice to have a smaller crowd since I was still feeling a bit sick. Unfortunately, Crystal got sick on Sunday. Ché, Shane, and myself were in attendance. Crystal joined us at the table with her quilting stuff. Tyler hung out and ate food! Someday he'll stop putting everything in his mouth and I can then trust him with hooks. We started off tying a black stone fly and moved on to a curved hex nymph. I forgot to tie in the hackle legs in the front....I told you I wasn't feeling well! After Crystal called and got hung up on at one local pizza place, we ordered pizza from Mark's (I'm only saying from where so we can reorder from there next time) and it was delicious! The first place advertised a sheet pizza for $13, and toppings were $3 extra, but when she called and asked for a sheet pizza with pepperoni it came to $25. They said if you order with a topping the pizza is full price. So, Shane yells "were going to Dominos" and the guy on the other end tells Crystal "Go to Dominos" and he hung up! Thanks Crystal for putting up with stupid people just so we can eat! As we were waiting for the pizza to arrive, Brian shows up dressed to kill! Fortunately he didn't kill anyone, but I think he was dressed that way trying to get votes to get me impeached as the president of GFP. As far as I know there is no plot against me, but the suit made me worry! He claims he was just stopping in since he had a few minutes before a work party. Maybe that's true, because if he didn't work, how could he afford the nice threads! Here are the flies Ché tied (not all were tied that night), and some pictures of his dubbing collection. Even though I wasn't feeling well, we still had a good time!

Redwings1 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2007 Too bad you weren't feeling up to par, but looks like a good time. That orange foam stimulator is a good looking fly!
oatka 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2007 Absolutely Matt! if you ever make it out here I'll give you 1 free day of fishing with me! after that you'll have to pay me to be seen with you in public! Redwings - His orange foam stimulator turned out way better than mine. But, again, I'll play the "sick" card!
TerryLee 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2007 Looks like good company, good pizza (yum), and great flys :headbang: !! I like that dubbing collection. I kept wondering what was in there when I was looking at the other pictures.
Dave in Phuket 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2007 Love the idea guys! Are cleansing ales in the vicinity? Ditto on the flies -- very nice indeed. I've never tied a fly in my life, but in about a week I've got a fly tying kit on the way over. A new tying buddy up in Bangkok said that the kit that I orders is good. I plan on finding some unique tying materials over here eventually, but first, I need to learn the basics. My new buddy in Bangkok is going to show me the ropes. I hope I'm not all thumbs... although, that would look pretty cool, eh! Ciao, Dave
oatka 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2007 Terry - those are actually blood tubes from his mom who is a nurse. that foam tray can hold 100 of those, he hopes to fill all 100 some day. Dave - no "cleansing ales". I chose the name Guys, Flies & Pies because none of us drink, but we tie and eat pizza (pies). Beers & Bugs seems to be well liked by those who drink! Dale 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2007 Looks like a good time oatka!! I've hosted a few at my place years ago, but I live so far out in the sticks, everyone looses interest after the first few times!!! I do hit the FFF tyers night in Syracuse every now and then. Great tyes and keep it up!!!

Beers & Bugs seems to be well liked by those who drink! Well, you certainly don't need beer to have fun. I wish there were some fly fishermen in my neck of the woods. I only know one guy in Bangkok who ties. Yes, I'm a bit jealous of you guys. Maybe I can start a branch over here called Rice and Royal Coachman
oatka 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2007 Rice and Royal Coachmen sounds like a great idea! Steve P is doing a Flies & Pies in about 2 weeks wherever he lives. He dropped the "Guys" because he has some ladies coming! Doesn't matter what you call it, it's fun to get together and tie!!! oh, and pizza is good too! twohearted 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2007 Sounds like fun guys. Beer and food optional. Bugs, friends and good times....essential. I second the good idea on the falcon tube dubbing dispensers. As far as filling 100 tubes, I have a hard time choosing between a pack of 1 doz colors. 100? Matt, we are going to have to assemble after the holidays. This looks like fun. But, I would not miss the party if beer was in attendance. We are old friends. Dave in Phuket....How is that pronounced? I assume it is just as I am thinking. Otherwise you would have used the screen name "Dave in Thailand." LOL. Cool post Oatka. Check your fly. RB

LOL. Check your fly. Hey RB, It's pronounced "Poo Ket". Wherever you see a 'ph' in Thai, it's pronounced 'p'. "check your fly"... good one brother! :hyst:
