Spoon Fly

Recommended Posts

I'm dying to know how this spoon fly is made...well mainly the epoxy pouring part...anyone know how to build these?

I have come up with the wire and how to make a similar shape...Laying 5 minute epoxy in there proves to be a difficult task...I was wondering if glitter glue would work, then cover with epoxy for a final coat.

Appreciate any info.

Mainly trying to figure out how the epoxy was poured or spread

I have built several spoons flies...interested in the wire and epoxy only variant

FYI---i have found that by Googling the tyers name rather than the something more generic as in this case "spoon fly" that i get better search results.

I agree with Twofingerz that those spoons look a lot like Captain Ron Begnaud's, R e d c h a s e r . c o m Ron is a really great guy. If you ever get the chance to head down to Lake Charles, Louisiana, you'd be very lucky to be able to spend the day being guided by Ron.

Another spoon fly that you may wish to try to tie is Capt. Danny Ayo's Spoon Fly, http://www.flyfishlouisiana.com/flies_knots_leaders.htm . I've been using spoons tied like Danny's for years, and I think that they "flutter' better than any other pattern available on the web. Danny is another fabulous south Louisiana guide that is well worth traveling to fish with.

If ya' want a great time, spend a few days in south Louisian chasing reds with both these guides.
