Recommended Posts

So when Im Palmering Marabou... there is only one problem I have....

When done the marabou goes well past the bend of the hook.

What could I do to prevent this

Thanks

Greg

You say 'Hurray' and 'Thank the Lord'. Marabou has a way, being very soft, of 'finding it's way' around the hook. You now have a 'fly' that has motion and undulates and does not foul the hook (very often). For only few wraps of feather you now have a fly that is long and sexy. It is easy to combine colours. I have tied some Gartside Soft Hackles which are basically the same and they work fine. Mini-jigs were formerly tied with bucktail that was longer than the hook (and not as undulating) so what is the concern?

Leave most of the hook shank bare and only Palmer by the eye, or bead if you have a bead head, That way the tips only slightly go past the hook bend and it will not foul.
