James Daly 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 Greetings all, Here's my first Hi Tie. I found this pattern in Art of Angling. Sorta Black Doctorish. Head is a mess and came up slightly short of covering the tube. Oh well, gonna swim it anyways. Any suggestions?? For your critiques. -Jamie

Black Sheep is a great salmon fly (come to Scotland in the spring my friend and give it a swin and you will see) A piece of advice when tying on a metal tube (US tubes and the like). Let the inner tube be around 5-6 mm longer than the metal tube in the front and use that to tie the front of the fly (hackles, wings and head) that way you come up with a neat finnish on the fly. Also see my remarks to Damians 1st tube. Regards Jens

letumgo 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 Mo tube goodness, Jamie!!! Is the wing material some of that great mohair you dyed? Whatever it is, it looks great! :headbang: Nice tip, Jens. I will have to try that on a tube soon.

RoyalWulff 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2008 James, Dont knock yourself on the head at all, I looked at the photo before reading the post and I said to myself (hey I like that head). Ill tell you why, because it stand out and almost looks like a cone with the front of the tube out a bit. I think you just inspired me to tie up a few similar tubes. James Daly 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2008 Thanks for the kind words all!! I can't wait to actually fish these. I think I will wait until closer to spring. Ironically though, I hook a 6lb hen yesterday that put on an unexpected surge and snapped my 8wt!!!!! She was very angry to have a hook in her lip!!! -Jens, I really appreciate the advice! I will try that, I do see how that will make the head much smaller now. Thank you. -Ray, spot on with the Mohair call. Again, Thanks all. My next ones will be the Torta series. I'm luvin' the Icelandic tubes!!!!!!!

That's a beauty Jens! Thanks for the pic. I now can truly see what you were saying. So, the junction tubing doesn't have to slide the whole way onto the tube itself? I was leaving a good junk of tube exposed on the tail end, now I will correct that. Thanks again, Jens!! -Jamie
