Dear Friend,

Do you ever look to the future and try to imagine the world our

children and grandchildren may grow up in? With all the news these days about

global warming and how it's impacting the environment, this picture

might sometimes be a scary thing.

But it doesn't have to be.

While individual solutions are necessary (driving less, changing your

light bulbs to compact fluorescents, etc.), scientists have made it

clear that in order to avoid the worst impacts of global warming, we need

federal legislation that will begin to reduce global warming pollution.

Right now, the U.S. Senate is considering just such a bill. It's called

the Climate Security Act, and not only does it help cut emissions, it

also sets aside billions of dollars to help protect wildlife from a

changing climate.

I emailed my senators today, urging them to support this bill. I

thought you might be interested in doing the same.

Kind of a minor question here, but what good will it do to set aside billions of dollars? I should know better than to post such a question, but I can't help myself. It's kind of like a dart board. Every problem is solved by throwing a money dart at it and hoping it hits the right place. Legalized thievery.

yeah I changed over to all compact fluorescent lamps... then learned how much mercury is in each one. I bought a 50mpg motorcycle 2 years ago as my primary transportation too. So what's better, the mercury or the fart-in-a-whirlwind amount of CO2 I saved? There's no easy, feel-good answer.

Wasn't the earth supposed to have been a whole lot warmer and wetter during parts of the dinosaur times? What about those dragonflies with the 3-foot wingspans? I hope they make a comeback- imagine dragonfly hunting with a 12 gauge!

We can have six-billion humans on the planet, all the modern conveniences, technology, comforts and medicine- and deal with the environmental impact--- or we can have a couple million humans living a stone-age existance and the earth in environmental bliss. One or the other, not both.

I was under the impression political posts were frowned upon by the mods?
