2008 Swap Club

Recommended Posts

I remember last year, fcflyguy started a monthly swap club and I got in after somebody had dropped out. I thought it was a great idea and quite a bit of fun. Unfortunately, I think it was a bit taxing on fcflyguy keeping things organized and various tyers were either late or dropped out unexpectedly.

If you are unfamiliar regarding what it was, basically you had 10 or 15 tyers who signed up. They committed to tying whatever the theme was for an entire year and then you would send in the flies on a monthly basis. Every month the SW would gather and resend and create a new theme for the next month.

It's a great idea and am wondering if anybody wanted to get this started up again. I know it's the end of January but we could get it going for at least February.

If anybody is interested in being in the 2008 Swap Club, I would be more than willing to host it. All I ask is that you commit to the swap and try your best to get the flies to me on time. If you needed to drop out for some reason, I would appreciate some notice in order fill your slot with somebody on a waiting list although I would hope that if you did sign up, you would be able to continue tying for the duration of 2008.

If we do try to get this going again, I do ask that only tiers who reside in the US get into this swap. I have too much trouble with the International Reply Coupons at the post office and it's kind of a pain in the rear to head all the way downtown in order to utilize them. Thanks and sorry.

Let me know and we can see about getting it started. If we get at least 10 people to commit, I will get it going and started for February.

Cool Riff.

This is a tough one because you really need to be committed to all the swappers in the club.

I would like to participate if the number of tyers is 10 or below. I feel anymore than that might get me in over my head.

I agree with you guys. With the quick turnaround required for this type of swap, even 10 is cutting it pretty tight.

How about we make it 10 total including me? That way you only have to tie 9 flies.

Count me in Stony.

If thats cool. :dunno:

This sounds awesome :headbang:.

I like swapping all year long, but at my own pace. A swap every month sounds perfect.

:P

Count me in too! Keeping it limited sounds great. Not that big of a burden then.

How do you want to do as far as signing up for a pattern?

3 more spots left.

I will probably set it up like fcflyguy did and each month will have it's own thread. I can just place all of your names in it and then you can advise what you will tie. That is unless we want to make this the longest thread on the board. :hyst:

Stony, I not sure you want me in this swap. After looking at the pattern types I see a lot of trout or cold water flies I have never tied.Although I could probably tie a passing grade fly ,not having held one or fished one before could leave you guys with flies that are well tied and well intended but useless.I would rather you give my spot to a cold water angler that might have more to contribute. However if you can not find a replacement I will uphold my obligation to the best of my ability.

Thanks, Fred

Not looking for replacements right now and I appreciate your candor. I will go ahead and remove you from the list. I didn't try to alienate anybody with the pattern theme selection. I kind of figured that is what most people know how to tie and there are many patterns within each of those groups that can be tied fairly quickly.

Not a problem though Fred. Hope to see you in another swap later on.

RDL and rockworm, you are both in. It's funny. You both got into the Stream & Creek swap in the same order. :D
