dazzyd 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2008 Hi I've been tieing for about 8 years and have just started to get interested in realistic art patterns. The info that I've gleaned from this forum has been great - especially considering that a lot of the realistic tiers I've seen on the web don't seen to be forth-coming with their techniques... This is my first realistic pattern. I need to do a bit of work on the legs to make them more real. Does anyone know where I can get some first-class tutorials or step by step guides? Redwings1 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2008 This is one discipline I do not tie so I will be of no help with tutorials, but your beetle looks splendid.
Andrés T 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2008 Hello Dazzyd, That is a very good first try! There are two books I would recommend you: `Flytyers masterclass´ by Oliver Edwards, and `Flies as Art´by Paul Whillock. You can also find some step by step tyings at Graham Owen´s page. British mike 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2008 Dazzyd nice first attempt and a good looking beetle. I agree with Andres two good books are the Oli Edwards and Paul Willocks book. I aslo have a few natural history books that have excellent close ups of the naturals that I always have open on my tying desk. I havce seen the Master class book on ebay in the past so keep a look out on there. Also check the forum archives as there are some really great tutorials from great tyers like Graham Owen, Ulf and many others. Keep up the good work and of course keep posting Mike..........................
dazzyd 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 pickin6ofem I used bristles off a cheap artists paint brush (nylon not hair) and bend them using a heated dubbing needle. I used Super Glue on the joints to thicken them a bit. I have picked up Paul Willocks book at a discounted £25 from ebay, but i do prefer photographs to drawings when following step by step guides... arkle 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2008 Sorry about that, my mistake I was rather tired & didn't check it to make certain. It looks like my own "personal hard drive" needs a re-boot. Anyway thanks to twofingers for correcting me, and I hope you liked his site.
