garren 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2008 Nice looking fly. What are you using to color the wings? I have experimented a lot, but have found it difficult to find a pen to draw fine lines. Garren
dazzyd 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2008 nice wings mike, are they printed on acetate?
British mike 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2008 Hi guys and thanks for the comments. I colored the wings after the style of Graham Owen, that is they are printed onto a thin acetate sheet and then scribed with a bodkin and then I went over the major vein lines with a very fine drawing pen and then ran over them with a brown marker then immediatley wiped it off with a finger and then did the same with a bright yellow pen. It gave them a nice two tone when held in the light. I have to thank Graham for this and of course as always all his help Mike............................ steelie 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2008 Good Day, Well done Mike! You know - any one else feel the same? IMHO - I think we can see the evolution of a realistic tyer from one fly to the next the great improvement and accuracy. But with a "standard" tyer one may have to look at such progression over a longer time period such as several dozens of flies. Just a thought. British mike 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2008 Hi Mike, The acetate sheets can be purchased at any office supplies store, it is used to enhance presentations on an overhead projector for teachers etc. Go for a lighter sheet as they come in different thicknesses. The type that Graham (my winging mentor) recommends is Dura-lar. I have researched several types and have found mat and glossy types. If you have trouble finding some drop me a PM Mike and I will send you a sheet to try Mike........................
