Steriod Bomber

Recommended Posts

Here is one of my first bombetr flies. I had no calf tail so I used foam and two hackles.

Comments welcome,

Jason.

I think it could work just as well without the fore and aft strike indicators. If the body is foam colored foam wrapped with hackle, then it should still float just fine. Other than that its ugly enough to catch fish, and ugly is a GOOD word when it comes to flies.

I like the body but I don't dig the foam... to each his own though.

Squirrel looks good if you don't have calf tail.

Try stopping the head short so there is room left on the shank for a riffle hitch. You won't need the foam with the hitch, it will skate along like a little boat.

I fish bombers a lot for brookies, and I find that having a long flowing hackle makes them sink. I like to see them with a bit shorter and stiffer hackle, myself. Also, if you get the right shape and float, the fly seems to trip over itself and give a bit of a wiggle. One of the best attractor dries, in my opinion.

As for the foam, could be super fishy, but never tried anything like it.
