netabrookie 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Hello, I recently came across a young bobcat hide and could use some ideas. Thanks,
rockworm 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2008 Considering their status, I think its a bad idea. (But I bet the fur is beautiful and soft.)
riffleriversteelheadslayer 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2008 it makes great dubbing and the gaurd hairs are excellent for hairwings as far as legal I know here in michigan you are allowed to have them I trap 1 or 2 a year
netabrookie 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2008 Thanks for the replies. I didn't stop to think about the legal side because I have heard of so many taken around here that I made the mistake to assume that they are legal to have, not to mention them being endangered. I saw some on an online catalog and wanted it so when a cousin called me and said he had one, I just couldn't resist. I will do some research and see if I am breaking any Virginia laws. Oh yeah, if its legal, it is very soft and will make great dubbing, but I hadn't thought of hair wings. Thanks... Take Care,
rockworm 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2008 Sounds like I was misinformed. I will have to check into this as I would like to try bobcat.
arkfisher 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2008 Bobcats are legal. If you get a pelt from another state and it is untanned, it must have a CITES tag attached to it. It's part of the fur trade legalities. It will make good dubbing. If it's a full hide with tail and claws included...I might be interested in buying it for taxidermy purposes and give you some bobcat fur that I have laying around. arkfisher
netabrookie 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2008 arkfisher, thanks for the information. The exit wound on its shoulder was beyond repair, so it now resides in zip-lock bags. I used to dabble in taxidermy when I was younger, and considered mounting this one when I received the call about it, but when I saw how damaged it was, I knew that it was beyond hope. Great dubbing though! Thanks, and Take Care
