Bert Brehm 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2008 Thing of beauty, Roy! I am new to the concept of USD flies. Is there a recipe or even better, a tutorial in my future? Does it fish good? Which hook? Won't the weight of the hook bend tend to rotate the bug around to a down position? Like the keel on a boat?

dwiltshire 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2008 Great Roy. Up against pictures of the natural, you can really appreciate why these will be so effective.

utyer 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Very nice tie. I think the wing and hackle will balance out the USD hook, the wing and clipped hackle should keep the fly upright.
Guest Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Thanks, all here;s a link to the method. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/flytying/f.../103104fotw.php The hackle is not clipped utyer, see the link Thanks Roy
VERN-O 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Roy....what hook are you using for the one shown in this post?.....I've really gotta find some time and try these (my dry flies are lacking in quality and quantity)
Guest Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Hi, Vern-), that is a FM31270, in UK, I think it is Daiichi 1270, it is a pretty heavy hook ! positive alternatives - TMC 2302 or 2312, the problem in finding a hook for this fly is I want a 2x long lightweight, short point hook with a slight hump, in a range of sizes 6 - 24. It's not like I want much!!!! Google those up and google Partridge K12ST and K14ST. The K!2ST is a lovely hook, shame it straightens when dinks make a run for cover... so that's NBG at all. You can of course build the fly on any hook, though you want to ensure a positive gape for ensuring contact. No point puttting the fish to all the trouible of taking the imitation if you cannot hook up. Let me know how it goes; I can give you another demo at CJ2008 ..... like you need fltytying lessons..... :hyst: Roy
letumgo 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Man, what a nice material combination to match that mayfly. The finished flies look terrific (as always). I really enjoy seeing each of your flies.
VERN-O 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 Roy, Did "Joolz" take the pics?....those shots show translucence so well. I'll take a lesson for sure.....I'll give these Easy Peasey a crack and bring them to CJ2008....and you can check to make sure I did my homework correctly
